

I want to go places and help people with music. “I went to the northern part of Japan where there was an earthquake in 2011, and I went to three elementary schools. “I would like to be able to perform around the world and to use my music to help other people,” says Umi. Umi, a freshman at the Pacific Academy in Irvine, says she practices three to four hours a day and hopes to use music to help others, discovering it could heal when playing for three elementary schools in northeastern Japan after an earthquake and tsunami ripped through the area in 2011. Now, Umi, between shows in Montana and a mini Northwestern tour through Oregon and Washington, is performing at the Los Gatos High School Theatre on May 3 at 2:30 p.m., where she will be presenting some of her favorites pieces, including Mozart’s Sonata in D Major and Chopin’s Scherzo No. “A really cool experience for me performing,” she says, “was when I performed on a cruise ship that went from Barcelona, Spain, to Miami, so it was really fun performance, on a moving ship crossing the Atlantic.” Since then, she’s traveled the globe, performing in Europe, Australia, South America, Asia and in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
